Coal shortage hits NTPC’s output-12 October 2011, The Times of India

NEW DELHI: The power situation has worsened as generation at state-run utility NTPC’s several plants across the country has been hit because of recent heavy rains in coal producing areas in eastern and central parts of the country and disruption of coal supplies due to continuing blockade in Andhra Pradesh’s Telengana region.

As major polluting countries such as the United States remain reluctant to a new mandatory deal on limiting global warming, the run-up to the forthcoming 17th Conference of the Parties (COP-17) on climate change in Durban (South Africa) later this year appears to be jinxed.

The developed world has been insisting on the emerging economies such as China and India now growing at a relatively rapid clip to decarbonise their growth strategy to help preserve the planet as a habitable place.

AHMEDABAD: A study of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A ) warns that Nitrous Oxide (N2O) emissions from excessive use of fertilizers by farmers in the country is significantly adding to global warming. The study suggests that better planning could increase the national food grain production without further increasing the emission.

World Meet On Climate Change in Hyderabad-10 October 2011, Climate Himalaya

The New Indian Express:  India’s first climate change conclave to be held in Hyderabad will help raise awareness on alternative energy resources and improve the existing energy policies in the country.
Climate change is for real and India, as a growing economic and industrial power, has an increased role in global climate change control. The Centre for Climate Change, Engineering Staff College of India (ESCI), is helping do just that.
The Centre is conducting India’s first international conclave and exhibition on climate change (ICCC) from October 12- 14 at the Hyderabad International Trade Exposition Limited (HITEX).
