Climate Talks: India Dismisses Reports of Differences with China – 06 December 2011, NDTV

Durban: India has dismissed talks of differences with other BASIC nations particularly China at the Climate Change talks in Durban.The BASIC group which comprises Brazil, South Africa,India and China has been negotiating with other countries to try and secure a second round of commitment from the Developed Nations under an extended Kyoto Protocol.

Efforts to expedite clearance for coal projects in India- 06 December 2011, Steel Guru

At present, 176 Coal projects are awaiting Environment & forestry clearances at different levels. Ministry of Coal has taken up the issue with coal producing States and MOEF for fast tracking the Environment & Forest clearances, land acquisition R& R issues. Further following steps have been taken by the coal companies to expedite the clearances:

DURBAN: Environment minister Jayanthi Natarajan landed in Durban on Sunday ahead of the high-level climate talks to hammer out a decision that only the political heads of 195 countries can take – a compromise that would ensure Kyoto Protocol remains alive and that the world signals readiness to discuss a new legally binding deal for all in future. This political decision would be the master key to a success at Durban.
