The issue of global governance has acquired increasing salience in recent years. With the process of globalisation and the increasing interconnectedness of economies, issues that transcend national and regional boundaries have become progressively more important. These include non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, in particular, nuclear weapons; cyber-security and the security of space-based assets; international terrorism, whether state-sponsored or perpetrated by non-state actors; international drug trafficking; and maritime security.

THE ECONOMIST has long accepted the scientific consensus that the world is warming and that this warming is being caused by carbon-dioxide emissions from human activity. Climate scientists generally believe that avoiding potentially catastrophic warming will require massive cuts in emissions. The world has generally failed to agree on such cuts, and The Economist now believes “a dash to stay under 2°C [of average temperature increase] is no longer plausible.”
Environment reports have ‘cooked data,’ says tribunal – 15 February 2012, The Hindu
