UN urges govt to commit to low carbon economies-21 September 2011,Calcutta Tube

New York, Sept 20 (Calcutta Tube / IBNS) The top United Nations climate change official Monday urged governments to carry through their commitments to low-carbon and climate-resilient economies to address climate change, stressing that the forthcoming conference in the South African city of Durban will be an opportunity to take significant steps towards that goal.

The much-hyped acquisition of Hancock coal projects could leave a bitter aftertaste for shareholders of GVK Power and Infrastructure Ltd.
The company holds only 10% stake in the projects, while the rest is held by GVK Coal Developers (Singapore) Pte Ltd, a subsidiary of GVK Natural Resources Pte Ltd, which is owned by the promoters of GVK Power.

By 2015, India’s spending on green IT and sustainability initiatives will double from US$35bn in 2010 to US$70bn in 2015, according to Gartner, Inc. In the Gartner report “Hype Cycle for Green IT and Sustainability in India, 2011,” analysts said green IT and sustainability have found their way into the IT organizations of many industries in India. Although still buzzwords for many, they will soon emerge as top priorities for businesses, investors and technology professionals across industries and policymakers in India.

The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has been certified for ISO 50001:2011 energy management system, becoming the first airport operator to receive this certification.

ISO 50001:2011, the ISO standard on energy management system, is a framework which draws the attention of organisations towards enhancing their existing energy efficiency. It takes into account the parameters of energy consumption and energy efficiency of the organisation.

BHEL clears decks to set up solar power plant-19 September 2011,The Hindu

The Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited (BHEL), Tiruchi, has cleared the decks to commence the process of installing its proposed two MW solar power plant during the next financial year at an investment of Rs. 17 to 18 crore. It had identified the location on its premises for the plant and is awaiting formal clearance from its corporate office. The space opposite the Unit II will be utilised for establishing the plant, A. V. Krishnan, Executive Director, BHEL, Tiruchi Complex, said.
