MUMBAI: Alan Rosling, who headed Tata Group’s globalization efforts, and former KPMG honcho Ardeshir Contractor, have boarded the renewable energy revolution . And giving them company are three US-based private equity funds that have made an initial equity commitment of $50 million in their start-up firm Kiran Energy.

September State-run NTPC is planning to strike a long-term offtake deal with coal companies abroad, to match its increasing demand. But due to the higher price range, the firm might restrict the import component of the total coal use to 10 per cent, though it is looking for acquisition of coal blocks outside India.

NEW DELHI/ CHANDIGARH: In a decision which spells celebration for Himachal Pradesh, and major setback to Punjab and Haryana, the Supreme Court on Tuesday ruled that the hill state was entitled to huge monetary compensation from its two neighbouring states as it had been denied adequate power supply share from the Bhakra-Nangal and Beas inter-state hydro projects.

NEW DELHI: The Coal Ministry on Tuesday said the shortfall in domestic coal output in the country is likely to exceed 200 million tonnes (MT) in the forthcoming Five-Year Plan (2012-17) period if proactive measures are not taken to bridge the demand-supply gap for the fossil fuel.
