Adnani Group commissions country’s largest solar project – 6 January 2012, Economic Times

Diversified Adani Group announced the commissioning of country’s largest 40 mw solar power plant in Kutch district Gujarat. For India’s largest private thermal power producer, the Solar Power Plant marks Adani’s first big foray in the renewable energy sector.

Indian Industry pollution blankets Terai in fog – 6 January 2012, Republic the Week

The dense fog over the Nepal Terai in the second and third weeks of December 2011 took a total of 40 lives because of the resultant cold wave it caused. The trend has followed for the past two decades as dense fog and cold wave claim several lives every year, with the poor always in the frontline.

Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra today stressed on the need to involve students and NGOs to generate greater awareness about the impact of climate change. The Governor was speaking after an interaction with a student, who had participated at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change held at Durban in South Africa from November 28 to December 9.

Chennai getting warmer this winter – 4 January 2012, The Times of India

This is the beginning of winter in the city, says the weatherman but the temperature in Chennai has been rising after cyclone Thane struck the state coast last week. And it is expected to get hotter. Meteorologists describe this as “seemingly hotter” phenomena, especially after the heavy wind and rains of last week.

Pachauri meets Mamata at writers’ – 3 January 2012, The Times of India

The Energy & Resources Institute (TERI) headed by RK Pachauri, who also heads the Nobel Prize-winning Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC), will soon submit its report to the Mamata Banerjee government on the impact of climate change on Bengal’s coastal and hilly areas. Pachauri met the chief minister at Writers’ Builidings on Monday to discuss scope of work in Bengal.
