There are dozens of different activities that could help farmers adapt to climate change, or reduce their emissions, while ensuring their future food security. Little wonder, then, that farmers are sometimes bewildered by the advice they receive. In South Asia, the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) has come up with a concept that should make the prospect of adopting “climate-smart” practices less daunting.

Nestle Highlights Climate Change with ‘Science Express’ in India – 14 June 2012, The Financial Express

With Prime Minister Manmohan Singh slated to attend the Rio summit on sustainable development, the government has prepared the grounds to help ‘friendly’ Brazil but not accept the adverse conditions that Europe is keen to impose at the event, which culminates with the meeting of heads of state from June 20 to 22.

Climate Change Will Boost Number of West’s Wildfires – 13 June 2012, TOI

Climate change will make wildfires in the West, like those now raging in parts of Colorado and New Mexico, more frequent over the next 30 years, researchers reported on Tuesday. More broadly, almost all of North America and most of Europe will see an increase in wildfires by the year 2100, the scientists wrote in the journal Ecosphere, a publication of the Ecological Society of America.

Coal Pollution Kills 70,000 a year in India – 13 June 2012, IBN Live

IMF chief Christine Lagarde on Tuesday said pollution from coal generation plants causes about 70,000 premature deaths every year in India. Without giving any further details about deaths due to pollution in India, Lagarde noted that environmental problems doesn’t just end with climate change. The IMF Managing Director said she believes the world is facing economic, environmental and social crises.
