After two decades working as a Democrat senator in the US Congress – and five years as under secretary of state for global affairs in the Clinton administration – Timothy Wirth quit politics to become president of the United Nations Foundation, a non-profit group established by Ted Turner in 1998. Known for his efforts towards better fuel efficiency and the spread of sustainable energy, Wirth spoke with Subodh Varma about environmental welfare’s future, how India can achieve best practices – and why America proved so resistant to the Kyoto Protocol
